The Misty Isle is neither quite a MUSH nor a MUD, but rather a hybrid of both. I list below some of the differences to be aware of if you are primarily used to MUSHes.
Characters are identified primarily by a short description rather than by a name, although you can ascribe a name to them using the DUB and DUBNAME commands. For example, if Bob emotes, you might see, "An average-looking man does something," rather than "Bob does something."
There are no commands to teleport.
Everything on the grid is "live" and open to all. There is no option for private scenes on the grid. If a player characters comes into a room and others are there, they are welcome to jump right in and start roleplaying.
Some player characters might be stealthy and remain out of sight in order to eavesdrop or such. They can still be spotted, since sneaking is far from foolproof. I note that I have made it impossible to use stealth in bedrooms, which are in any event behind locked doors. I am open to reviewing how this works out and might disable stealth on the grid more broadly if I am dissatisfied with how it is used.
There is no in-game page or mail system. However, there are channels.
Combat is resolved through the use of code and at a relatively quick pace. Combat is disabled on the grid itself, and can only happen if a GM determines it appropriate, which will be rare. It would be much more common in GMed events. If you choose to play a character who might frequently engage in combat, please be aware of this.
