Item Skinning and YouThe
FutureMUD engine allows for players to submit item skins with the 'itemskin' command for admins to approve. For most cast characters, their private rooms will have generic items that could easily, if so wished, be customized by the player or players who use that space.
We have allowed this feature to go without disabling it because we feel that players like personalization for their PCs! While this command isn't limited only to cast characters, there will be far more instances for tier one and two characters to utilize this possibility in game, rather than those who are playing characters in tiers three and four.
However, if any player of any tier sees a generic item inhabiting a room that you think could use a reskin, please feel free to submit one! We love player contributions!
Item Quality and You Characters of all tiers will receive outfits that will appear such as this:
- a set of poor clothing
- a set of common clothing
- a set of fine clothing
- a set of extravagant clothing
These can all be skinned, if desired, but there are some guidelines we would recommend, if only to follow the adjectives in what is listed by way of the cloth available in this setting:
Poor clothing - would be comprised of serge, coarse wool, and poorly woven linens; these would be uneven in dye, or blandly colored.
Common clothing - would be made of buckram, a couple pieces of russet wool, more finely woven linens, beaver hide for outer garments.
Fine clothing - would include any of the above, but more finely woven, and worsted wool.
Extravagant clothing - is where your ermine, your silks and velvets, your Emelrene linens all would be. Also, specific dyes of saffron, dragon's blood, indigo blue, and tazach purple could be used in these garments.
These adjectives can also relate to jewelry.
Poor jewelry - might include bone or heavily tarnished copper.
Common jewelry - would be copper, tin, lead, with perhaps some smaller silver pieces.
Fine jewelry - could be any of the above more finely made or more intricate silver pieces.
Extravagant jewelry* - would be all of the above and also include gold.
*Mythral, while it does exist, is unlikely to be seen by anyone besides enterprising adventurers. It is not something that would likely even be available for purchase anywhere.
A Brief Note on Design:
While Lux and I love and appreciate and welcome any person's commitment to time period appropriate pieces, we realize not everyone has this knowledge or wishes to gain it, and that is okay! Buttons are fine, intricate lacework is fine, thin stockings are fine. So long as the garments described are 'Medevial Era-esque', we have no problem with them being described as a person wishes, even if something is modeled after a contemporary Renfaire outfit.
We look forward to seeing what wonders (and ugly, clashing outfits!) you create with the item skin command!
