The Misty Isle will run as a series of episodes. I anticipate that each will take between two and six months, but this guess may be on the long side. Each episode will focus on a specific geographic region and the situations prevailing there.
For example, the very first episode focuses on the eastern part of the Kingdom of Chybisa, where there is rising tension between certain powerful figures, although other concerns will certainly come into play, and there is certainly the possibility of external pressure too. The cast of characters available all have hooks, big or small, to tie them into what is going on, although in the event that a majority of players make original characters, I shall work with players to ensure those characters can be integrated into the story where possible.
The second episode is likely to focus on the wholy of Chybisa. Given the experimental nature of the game, this will be the one case where players can all carry their characters forward from the first episode to the second.
Other episodes could, without being too prescriptive, focus on Thardan politicking and the potentially grubby business of getting into the Senate; the Kandian border with Rethem and the potential for an outright war; certain more adventure-focused episodes, possibly using some of the settings more fantastical locations; or the expansive and complex workings of the looming Kaldoric succession crisis. Those are just some ideas. The setting is excellent at presenting hooks, as can be seen with just a section of one realm providing enough material for what I feel will be an interesting episode in itself.
A quirk to the episodic structure is that many characters cannot be carried forward from episode to episode. There is, in essence, a character wipe, with certain exceptions. If an episode happens to be in the same geographic region as a previous one, then players will be offered the option to reprise past roles. If a character has come out on the losing side in a particular episode and been forced into exile, for example, I will entertain, but make no guarantee, the prospect of having them appear in exile in a different region. Finally, certain character types, including but not strictly limited to adventurers, mercenaries, harpers, courtesans, heralds, and missionary clergy, who do not have particular roots in any one region or particular power, will almost always be able to move from episode to episode. I may determine that an episode happens to run concurrently with a previous one, rendering appearance in both impossible. However, I expect most episodes will be consecutive.
